Microsoft Learning Gateway is a secure comprehensive framework of Microsoft products to provide a learning and collaborative portal for the students, teachers and parents. It empowers the students with better communication and collaboration tools; liberating teachers from paper work to let them to focus more on curricula development and other more strategic activities; enables the parents to be more in touch with their children education. Learning Gateway also provides secured single sign-on to the portal; each user only has to know one password to assess all information in the entire portal.
Commerce Online is proud to be the first to deploy the Learning Gateway to schools in Singapore. Our methodology is crafted to tailor and deploy the essential Learning Gateway components to meet the school needs. Our services are extensible to provide support services to ensure smooth operation of the Learning Gateway; or to extend the Learning Gateway to meet the school’s special requirements.
Key Components
The Learning Gateway utilizes advance technologies like Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services to create a rich portal experience that delivers relevant and personalised information to the users. With Microsoft SharePoint technologies, users can construct their school portal swiftly with minimal knowledge of web design and coding.
Microsoft Class Server is integrated within the Learning Gateway as an online Learning Management System (LMS). With the user-friendly features of Microsoft Class Server, the teachers can create, manage and assign assessment and tests online to the students. Class Server can ease the workload of the teachers by auto-marking the assessments on the behalf of the teachers. Teachers can gauge the performance of their students by simply exporting the assessment results to Microsoft Excel for comparison and analysis.
To ease the communication between school members, Microsoft Exchange 2003 accounts are given out to users. With an Exchange account, users can send and receive internet mail; they are also able to track events with their personal calendar and task list; keep their personal contact list. Access to Microsoft Exchange is supported via a Web browser through Outlook Web Access.
Real-time collaboration through Instant Messaging (IM) is materialised with the deployment of Live Communications Server 2003 as part of the Learning Gateway. Users can send an instant message to others; knowledge of who are online; collaborate concurrently through Application Sharing or Whiteboard features.
